Document to Slides

Document to Slides is a web application that turns Markdown documents into slides.

It works much like Document to Document, except that three asterisks (***) separate the slides. A paragraph thus becomes a scene. You can also set the slides’ text, background, and accent colors, and even their aspect ratio. The “Slides” button at the bottom switches straight to slide mode. That is all.

Documents Become Slides

The history of slides as we know them is not as long as one might think. In 1987, when Microsoft released PowerPoint, “slides” became the visual language dominating meeting rooms and classrooms. But complex tools, heavy formats, and an excessive range of styles also gave rise to a slide culture in which form overtook content.

Document to Slides stands on the other side. Starting with Markdown-based text, it is designed to let anyone create slides without learning a separate tool. Above all, it naturally extends a document onto the stage of slides while preserving its semantic structure.

Writing that carries meaning can now be seen and shared as well as read. This is the experience of slides—another kind of document—coming alive as a presentation, and a new way of writing proposed by Document to Slides.

So write as you usually do, but go further than you expect. A single sentence becomes a slide that tells your story, our story. We hope Document to Slides will make your next presentation more concise, more thoughtful, and more your own.
