All Min Guhong said in response to Kim Dongshin’s question was, “How about just ‘Dongsinsa’?” He took the two syllables “Dongshin” from her name and added “sa” (社), a suffix that also brings to mind an old printing shop or flour mill. Much as Min had added “Manufacturing” to his own name.

“Dongsinsa” rests on Kim Dongshin’s name while holding other meanings. Some might hear “god of the East,” or “shindong,” the Korean word for a prodigy, with its syllables reversed. With “sa” attached, Kim Dongshin’s longstanding work with books takes the name of a company. A person’s name becomes a name for what she does.
