After founding Min Guhong Manufacturing and introducing the company through Company Introduction, Min Guhong was left with a new question: What should I actually do now? In other words, what should I edit—what should I remix?
Naturally, Kirby Ferguson’s documentary Everything is a Remix came to mind. When Min Guhong first watched the film in 2011, it argued—as its title suggests—that everything is a remix. This, too, raised a question. If we take that phrase literally, then Everything is a Remix must also be a remix. And the work that remixes Everything is a Remix is also a remix. And the remix of that remix… and so on.
””“Everything is a remix” is a remix” is a remix”… is a product that attempts to follow this spiral of thought. The central sentence—”Everything is a remix”—is repeatedly followed by sentences that remix that very sentence. As the sentence repeats, it layers. As it layers, it spawns quotation marks. As quotation marks accumulate, rhythm emerges. And from rhythm, confusion. But perhaps even that confusion is part of the remix. Just as “Min Guhong” and “Manufacturing” were remixed to form “Min Guhong Manufacturing”—a company that remains difficult to define.
