In 2020, as the emergence and spread of COVID-19 brings many changes across the arts and reduces offline activity, Art Sonje Center is expanding online to continue sharing and fostering empathy through art. It is opening HOMEWORK (homework-artsonje.org) as a dedicated online platform for this purpose.

The name “HOMEWORK” reflects the current expansion of work from home while also suggesting assignments undertaken to prepare for the future. Min Guhong Manufacturing built the website. Operating alongside the museum’s official website, HOMEWORK has three chapters: “Stories,” “Books,” and “2020.” In “Stories,” Art Sonje Center’s curatorial team looks back on the museum’s twenty-two years of activity, researching and introducing selected exhibitions and activities through writing. “Books” republishes major texts from around eighty catalogs and books issued by the museum, sharing their contents with a wider audience.

The “2020” chapter presents work commissioned from artists and writers in Korea and abroad connected to Art Sonje Center. They were asked to revisit previous works in light of the present situation or record the changed daily life of 2020 in their own varied ways. Through writing, music, photography, drawing, and other forms of imagery, participants will freely propose portraits of individuals living through time with COVID-19, their thoughts, and their imaginings of the future.

Art Sonje Center’s new website, HOMEWORK, will operate temporarily during 2020.
