Visitors abruptly encounter three names. The first simply combines two names, separated by a middle dot (·). The other two result from removing the dot and splitting the first name apart. Judging by their positions and the space surrounding them, the three names are likely to be read as titles of something. This alone might suffice, but visitors cannot help bringing a mouse cursor or the tip of an index finger to each name. This is not particularly abrupt. Lengthy instructions would be pointless here.

Lines of text emerge in response to the visitor’s actions. As the space between lines fills with more lines, visitors finally sense that these are not merely lines of text but items, and that the items form a chronological list. Yet they do not readily reach the realization that the preceding three names have turned from titles of something into filters for the list. Their recognition stops just short of it. Visitors have far too many things they must, or want to, do at once. I know a couple of people who find this regrettable.

Each item takes the form of a list in turn. As an item, the list arranges its own items horizontally in order of importance, separating each with a comma (,). The comma not only separates items but also assigns rank to what follows. The instant the arrangement produced by these two different kinds of lists and items looks to visitors like the bibliography of a printed publication, it becomes a bibliography, regardless of what it actually is.

Under the governing logic of a bibliography, which arranges information about a work horizontally in order of importance, the author’s place is always at the front. Some people make the moment their name occupies this position a fine goal in life. The desire to place not only no comma but nothing at all before oneself manifests in the list the visitor encounters through the new order assigned by Min Guhong Manufacturing. Just as information that was merely a footnote, marginal note, or endnote in print gains a new status through the [tag on the web, the three names naturally occupy the author’s place not only in works they have led but also in works in which they have participated. In these cases, the name once revered as the author disappears or retreats. It is given a status it has never experienced and never once wanted. Min Guhong Manufacturing is a company focused on introducing the company—that is, Min Guhong Manufacturing itself—in various ways. It occasionally releases by-products of this process as products and, on rare occasions, provides customers with technical support. The company’s business surrounding “products” and “technical support” ultimately converges on introducing the company: Min Guhong Manufacturing. As if, today, beneath every act of creation or support lay a desire to introduce the actor rather than the act. This overlaps somewhat with another desire: to place the three names in the author’s position and look at them before falling asleep, and to repeat them not only there but in the domain name and email address as well.

“Without ‘kimnuiyeon,’ ‘jeonyongwan.kr’ will never work in the domain. In fact, ‘kimnuiyeon.jeonyongwan.kr’ can exist thanks to ‘kimnuiyeon.’ Conversely, ‘kimnuiyeon’ will never function without ‘jeonyongwan.kr.’ This is why ‘jeonyongwan.kr’ supports ‘kimnuiyeon.’ Of course, this is strictly a technical statement. There is nothing unusual about it. Yet precisely because it is not unusual, there is room to reconsider it, to plant a flag. In any case, it is clearly a technically and even conceptually perfect domain format for a duo working under names given by their parents, grandparents, or a famous name-giver.”

Min Guhong Manufacturing’s desire also affects the list of letters the visitor encounters and its governing logic—roughly speaking, its macro- and microtypography. This comes from a dogmatic belief that basic, even elementary web technologies can be amply effective, and therefore beautiful, without adding effects loud enough to intimidate visitors, and from the somewhat naive belief that somewhere there will be customers who support that belief. Anachronistic though this may be, it is a challenge worth abruptly undertaking today, when so much has been automated and turned into templates. It is a story about something ordinary rather than anarchism, nostalgia, or brutalism. The server capacity used to add loud effects should be allocated to the content itself: ordinary, concise, boring, eerie, useful, useless, beautiful content—and content that appears in search engine results. At least within Min Guhong Manufacturing’s premises.

For your information, in the time it takes to add a few lines of CSS to implement a smooth gradient or animation that will become a memory and eventually disappear, devise a situation and learn to write and spell first. Before that, read the company introduction silently. If you cannot understand it, there is no reason to remain on the premises.

Meanwhile, there is another belief at odds with the preceding one: behind the list visitors encounter, it must be possible to manage the three names’ works and all related information—the database—more rationally, efficiently, and, above all, enjoyably than by any other method. In other words, one must also aspire to the state of the art. Unfortunately, visitors can never experience the central core of the technology running on Min Guhong Manufacturing’s product *Management* as long as they remain visitors. This is a luxury reserved entirely for the customers: the three names. Provided they are not criminals, Min Guhong Manufacturing’s customers deserve it.

What should we call the list visitors encounter and the experience surrounding it? Simply calling it a “website” is no different from dismissing and defining the technology supported by Min Guhong Manufacturing as “design,” “programming,” “database construction,” “backend programming,” or “frontend markup and design.” If nothing can fully and precisely encompass it all, it is better to choose an approach so simple that it may even seem incongruous. Just as, if working with computer languages as tools—coding—is another dimension of writing, it is sometimes better to call the result a poem.

As visitors already sense, the list they encounter will be refined and expanded. One of the three names always occupies the front of the comma-separated items: the author’s place. The three names use language as the main material of their works. The reason is unknown. It may be a matter of interest, curiosity, or the coordinates they wish to occupy as three names. But beyond interest, curiosity, and coordinates, the three names sometimes cannot resist the desire simply to add to the list, and think about future works and the future of works. This, too, the visitors have already sensed.
