One and Three T-shirt

2025

Following Joseph Kosuth’s One and Three Chairs, and modeled after One and Three Web Browsers, One and Three T-shirts juxtaposes the three dimensions that constitute a T-shirt. The first is the physical T-shirt itself, wearable and tangible. The second is a photographic image of the T-shirt. The third is a dictionary definition of the term “T-shirt.” These three layers are not presented separately but are simultaneously embedded within a single product.

As a result, the person wearing this T-shirt wears the garment, displays its image, and exhibits its definition. Wearing becomes a form of citation, and the body becomes a medium. This product does not ask, “What are you wearing?” but rather, “What does the act of wearing define?” If putting on a T-shirt simultaneously prompts reflection on its meaning, the wearer steps not into a closet, but into a sentence.
