Choe Hyeon-bae’s art-name, ‘Oesol’, means ‘one pine tree’. As a Hangeul scholar and activist, he emphasized the power of words, especially for young people. Like his life, in which he advocated for pure Korean and horizontal writing, to lay the foundation for today’s Hangeul, the poster honoring him requires only one letter, ‘솔’ (pine tree), which stands tall and brightens the darkness by itself, without adding anything.
