# The Typesetter’s Bridge

The hyphen (-), en dash (–), and em dash (—) are practical marks that typesetters use to connect the characters on either side, like bridges. This work, which looks like little more than a mass of black ink, functions as a giant hyphen, en dash, or em dash, connecting the works on either side of it in an exhibition or on a page. As a fellow typesetter, I can only hope it is not placed at the very beginning or the very end.
